Governing for quality: A quality and safety guide for district health boards

1 Feb 2016

November 2024: This document has been replaced by ‘Collaborating for quality: a framework for clinical governance | He mahi ngātahi kia kounga: He anga hei whakahaere whare haumanu'. View the resource page to access the framework.

This guide was developed to help district health boards (DHBs) put quality and safety at the centre of governance and drive improvement in their organisations. While the guide was written with DHBs in mind, the principles and guidance were relevant and could be applied to all health care providers.

It included:

  • an outline of the role of boards as agents for quality and safety improvement
  • the seven essential steps boards can take to improve the quality and safety of health care services
  • a checklist to guide boards and assess progress.
