Querida Whatuira-Strickland describes her work helping whānau with health literacy in her role as kaitakawaenga.

Making sure patients and whānau understand what the doctor or nurse is telling them about their health problems often means the kaitakawaenga translates for whānau.

Querida also works with Pacific families and finds similar communication problems in their meetings with doctors.
