#O2TheFix: Swimming between the Flags was an awareness campaign run by Waitematā DHB to encourage staff to consider appropriate oxygen levels when administering oxygen.
Waitematā DHB has given us kind permission to share the toolkit here. The toolkit resources are available for download at the bottom of this page.
The aim of the toolkit is to:
- increase awareness and practice of oxygen as a medicine
- improve prescribing, administration, monitoring and titration.
This work supports the Commission’s patient deterioration programme.
For further information please email Dr Alex Chapman (respiratory senior medical officer) and/or email Jessica Nand (pharmacist team leader, Surgical Services, and ICU pharmacist) at Waitematā DHB.
With thanks to the Oxygen Steering Group, Waitematā DHB for giving permission to share these resources.
A note on the electronic charting (MedChart) templates
Using the templates in MedChart (a hospital prescribing system; DXC) facilitates the recommended prescribing of oxygen. The prescriber enters ‘oxygen’ into the medication field, then selects the device most appropriate for their patient. They then choose the most appropriate pre-set target oxygen saturation range.
