Including whānau voices in family violence homicide in-depth reviews
Since 2019, the Family Violence Death Review Committee has been seeking the input of surviving family and whānau members as part of the in-depth review process. This article is a reflection on the process and how we can improve it. We used the Mortality Review Committee’s Māori mortality framework (Te Pou) to draw on knowledge from te ao Māori, allowing us to consider the changes that need to be made for the in-depth review process to be part of a healing journey.
