Hand Hygiene New Zealand auditing manual (2019 edition)

18 Nov 2021

This is a practical ‘how to’ guide to hand hygiene auditing as part of a quality improvement programme. It is primarily intended for inpatient settings such as district health boards and private surgical hospitals.

Measuring hand hygiene performance rates with timely reporting of results helps to identify areas where improvement has taken place and those that require further attention. In this way it is a powerful tool to motivate and drive further improvements in practice.

This is the third revision of the auditing guide since the start of the Hand Hygiene New Zealand programme (last revised 2019) and reflects how the programme has matured. This guide includes changes to the auditing requirements to support sustainability and embed good hand hygiene across the whole hospital.
