Ngā Pou Arawhenua is a caucus comprising Māori who are participating in Te Tāhū Hauora Health Quality & Safety Commission’s national mortality review work as members of the National Mortality Review Committee or as subject matter experts. Many were members of previous mortality review committees before 1 July 2023.
The caucus supports and provides mentoring for Māori by nurturing their voice and wairua as Māori.
The group also supports the National Mortality Review Committee to achieve health gains for Māori by strengthening work to advance Māori health and achieve equity and to increase and improve the application of te ao Māori in mortality review.
Te Pou – Māori responsive rubric and guidelines is used to support this kaupapa. Te Pou is a tool to assist with the interpretation and reporting of Māori mortality.
