Aotearoa New Zealand health care workers across many different professional groups have access to online learning modules through a collaboration between HHNZ, the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care and Hand Hygiene Australia (HHA).
Access to these modules is currently through the HHA website https://www.hha.org.au/online-learning/complete-a-module. You will be required to register with HHA. By registering you will be given a login so that you can return and access your certificate or complete further modules at any time. You will also be able to start an e-Learning module, save your progress, then return and finish at another time.

Overview
This module provides a basic knowledge of infection prevention and control principles to assist the learner in understanding how infections spread and how to prevent this occurring, in the aged care environment. The module can be used when inducting new staff or as an annual update.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module, learners should have an understanding of:
- their role in assessing the risk of infection as part of their everyday duties
- using risk assessment to determine what precautions should be used
- the chain of infection and how interrupting the chain can stop the transmission of infectious agents
- the components of standard precautions, including hand hygiene, PPE, cleaning, equipment use and handling of sharps
- the components of transmission-based precautions.
Target audience
All workers in the aged care sector who provide care for or come into contact with residents.
