Unique opportunity to hear from experts in evidence-based medicine
Using evidence to increase equity in health care and address over-diagnosis and over-treatment will be the subject of a unique, one-day conference in Auckland jointly hosted by the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine, the British Medical Journal, the University of Auckland and the Health Quality & Safety Commission.
With a focus on the needs of a New Zealand audience, ‘Getting better with evidence: Experiences of putting evidence into practice’ will explore:
- gathering and disseminating better evidence
- translating evidence into action, including increasing equity and reducing over-diagnosis and over-treatment
- building solutions, the roles of big data, randomised control trials and real-world experience.
International and New Zealand expert clinicians, policy makers, scientists, researchers and consumer advocates will discuss putting evidence into practice. Attendees will be part of the discussion addressing the challenges currently being faced in health care.
The Commission’s chief executive, Dr Janice Wilson, says the conference will bring internationally acclaimed EBMLive to New Zealand for the first time.
‘EBMLive is a platform encouraging debate on the current status and future direction of evidence-based medicine and features practical skills and advice from world-leading speakers.
‘This conference is a unique opportunity for those working in all sectors of health care, particularly those involved in the Choosing Wisely initiative, to hear from international and New Zealand experts in evidence-based medicine.
‘We have a fantastic line-up of speakers, including British Medical Journal Editor in Chief, Dr Fiona Godlee, Catherine Marshall, who is Co-Chair of the Cochrane Governing Board and a New Zealand consumer advocate and Dr Carl Heneghan, Director of the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (UK) and practising GP.’
