Te Tāhū Hauora Health Quality & Safety Commission Chief Executive Dr Peter Jansen has tendered his resignation due to ill health.
Due to the nature of his illness and the expected prolonged period of his treatment, Dr Jansen has decided that the best thing for both his recovery and the organisation is that he permanently steps down from his role.
Board chair Rae Lamb says, “In addition to serving as chief executive since May 2023, Dr Jansen was one of the first board members when the Health Quality & Safety Commission was established in late 2010.
“Dr Jansen is a distinguished Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners for his work on cultural competence and health equity for Māori. As a specialist medical practitioner with extensive experience in health service governance, management, research and service delivery his impact on health services in Aotearoa New Zealand has been lengthy and wide reaching.
“The Board would like to extend its deep gratitude to Dr Jansen for his service and best wishes as he continues his cancer treatment.”
Due to the circumstances of his resignation, the Board has agreed to a shorter notice period. Dr Jansen’s last day will be 12 March 2025.
Director of Engagement and Impact, Kere Pomare, will act as Chief Executive, supported by Director of Finance and Digital, Bevan Sloan.
