The Health Quality & Safety Commission’s mental health and addiction quality improvement programme's Māori advisory and consumer advisory groups held their final meetings for 2020 in Wellington last week.

The consumer advisory group provides quality advice and support, from a consumer/lived experience perspective. This includes support of, and participation in, programme events and projects and connecting the programme with a diverse range of consumers, families and whānau. The groups are part of the Commission’s mental health and addiction (MHA) quality improvement programme. The Māori advisory group supports Māori and wider sector engagement, raises awareness of MHA issues for Māori and ensures the programme is responsive to tangata whaiora and whānau experience.

Meeting highlights included updates on the connecting care and learning from adverse events projects, the screening of the Pono consumer and whānau videos and a discussion about the stories of Zero seclusion champions. There were also discussions about the zero seclusion project title and about the further development of the district health board e-training on implicit bias.
