Kia āta kōwhiri Choosing Wisely

The Choosing Wisely campaign seeks to reduce harm from unnecessary and low-value tests and treatment.

The Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022 contains directives for consumer and whānau engagement by the health sector. 

 Section 59 Code for consumer and whānau engagement in health sector

(1) The HQSC must develop a code of expectations for consumer and whānau engagement in the health sector. 

(2) The code must state expectations for the purpose of supporting consumer and whānau engagement in the health sector and for enabling consumer and whānau voices to be heard. 

(3) The code is made when the Minister approves it. 

(4) The code must, as soon as practicable after it is made,— 

(a) be presented to the House of Representatives; and 

(b)be made publicly available. 

(5) The code is secondary legislation for the purposes of the Legislation Act 2019. 

 

The Code of expectations for health entities’ engagement with consumers and whānau was tabled in parliament on 9 August 2022 and formally launched on 25 August 2022.
